Youth Tennis

Ages 4 – 14

We believe that tennis is one of the greatest sports and can be played for a lifetime!

We offer spring, summer, fall and winter programs for all levels

We offer year round youth tennis programs

Winter Youth Tennis

(early December, 2025 - late February, 2026)

This energetic indoor tennis program is for kids (ages 4-9) at the Chevy Chase Community Center. Using mini nets and foam balls, we focus on footwork, form and control. This is perfect for younger players who can learn tennis (or improve their skills), get some exercise and prepare to go outside in the spring!

Summer Tennis Camp

(June 23-August 22, 2025)

Our Summer tennis program offers morning and afternoon half-day camps for all levels and ages (4-17 year olds). We’ll teach your child tennis basics (or help improve their skills) while having fun and getting lots of exercise! To beat the heat, we take lots of water breaks and have misting spray bottles and hoses for cooling down in between tennis games and drills.

Our Fall afterschool tennis program offers one-hour classes for boys and girls (ages 4-13) for beginner, advanced beginner and intermediate players. We’ll teach your child how to play basic tennis (or help improve their skills) while having fun and getting lots of exercise!

What's new: We are organizing our weekly classes by the following levels and ages each day:

  •   4:30 pm classes: Advanced beginners and Intermediate: Ages 7-9

  •   5:30 pm classes: Intermediate and Advanced: Ages 9-12

We will group players by age and level on the courts (Coach Erin will assess each player the first week and make sure each child is grouped together by skill level and age).

-Where: Lafayette-Pointer Park tennis courts at Lafayette Elementary School in Northwest, Washington, DC.

-When: Monday-Friday (3:30, 4:30 and 5:30 one-hour classes). If you don't see the right fit for your schedule or your child's age/level, contact Elizabeth Clofine (lafayettetennisinfo@gmail.com) and we can adjust the schedule.

-Dates: The Fall season will start the week of September 1 (but we will not have classes on Monday, Sept. 1/Labor Day, Monday and Oct. 13/Indigenous People's Day). The first day of our season will be Tuesday, September 2.

The length of the season will range from 6-10 weeks depending on your class time (3:30, 4:30 or 5:30 pm) due to sunset times and daylight savings:

-For 3:30 classes, the season will end the week of November 3 - 7 (sun sets at 5 pm)

-For 4:30 classes, the season will end the week of October 27 - 31 (sun sets 6:06 pm)

-For 5:30 classes, the season will end the week of October 20 - 24 (sun sets at 6:15 pm but “civil sunset” or dusk is until 6:41 pm)

-Price: $38/class or $380 for 10-week season, $342 for 9-week season, $304 for 8-week season, etc. (If you sign up for the Monday classes, you will not be charged for Monday, October 13/Indigenous People's Day).

-Determining your child's level: Tennis Director Erin Rosebar will evaluate your child's level the first week of the season and will then group him/her on the court with other children of the same age and skill.

-Coming to the courts & CLS: If your child is walking up to the tennis courts by themselves, please make sure that their teacher knows that they are self-dismissing to go the tennis courts up the hill. If they are also in the CLS afterschool program, you need to let the CLS program coordinator know that they will be participating in the Lafayette Tennis program. If you need LTA to retrieve your child from CLS and bring them to the courts, please note that in the registration. At the start of the season, we will email those parents who have children enrolled in CLS with a shared document with CLS. Please note: Our coaches can retrieve your child from CLS but we cannot return them to CLS (that is CLS’ rule, not ours).

-School days off: We will still have classes every day regardless of school days off (except for Federal holidays: Monday, Sept 1/Labor Day and Monday, Oct. 13/Indigenous People's Day.

-Make-ups: Effective this year we will not have a make-up week. Instead, our policy is two make-ups per season for illness/appointments, etc. If there is a weather cancellation, we will have students make-up the lesson at designated days/times throughout the season.

We want to be as flexible as possible but also considerate to the other students in our at capacity/full classes. To do this we will post specific make-up days that students can join through the season.

-Update on taking checks as a form of payment: Unfortunately, LTA can no longer accept checks as a form of payment. We know some of you prefer checks to avoid fees (which Stripe charges, LTA doesn’t), but unfortunately, it’s become too burdensome for our small staff. Every season, many people select to pay by check and forget to send in (people are busy, we get it!) but then we have to spend a lot of time running down checks. We hope you will understand. If this poses a hardship for you, please email Elizabeth and we can work something out.

-Tennis gear: If you need to buy a racquet, we have a relationship with Tennis Zone (4839 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, WDC) where you can get 10% off (mention LTA) and they can help you pick a racquet that's appropriate for your kid's size.  If child forgets their racket, we have ample loaner racquets for the day so do not worry!
